The tiger beetles spend their lifetime there, sustaining their lives to the next generation. The adults appear on the beach for two months in summer, and the other period is mostly a larval stage. The larvae have individual burrows in the sand, hiding themselves there for hunting. When finding a prey approaching, the predator pounces it on the surface. This hunting style requires to keep the burrow mouth open; therefore, the water content of the surface layer can be an influential factor for the larval growth.
